Political talk

• John Leahy denounces our democratically elected politicians, in the form of the President, Taoiseach and Tanaiste, speaking on our behalf on official occasions abroad (Letters, October 9).

What is John Leahy proposing? That we hand the place back to the Brits and let Cameron and Co talk for us?

I am as good at giving out about our politicians as the next person. That is what we do in a democracy. But saying that our democratically elected politicians should not speak on our behalf is going a bit too far and is not right.
