Political funding debate is skewed

Taking opposition parties to task about political party funding has become a big issue in the media recently.

John FitzGerald (Letters, July 28) mentions the Lucinda Creighton kerfuffle and the opposition of the Labour Party to preventing trade unions from donating to political parties.

Confining this debate to the actions of the opposition ignores the fact that the present indefensible position, in which nearly all donations to political parties are not disclosed, was legislated for by a Government, most of whose members are still in power.
