Plight of taxpayer ignored as always

There is an increasing number of TDs not willing to contest a general election because it is more lucrative to retire than remain working as an opposition TD. This speaks volumes about how excessive a politician's pension is compared to the ordinary taxpayer.

Brian Lenihan is unwilling to do anything on the foot of legal opinion that no section of society should be "disproportionately affected" by any government move (Irish Independent, December 31).

Brian, you might not have noticed, but a large section of society -- called the taxpayers -- has been disproportionately affected by a government move that has resulted in the current IMF/EU bailout.
