Plan for centre shows we've learned nothing
The article in the Irish Independent of March 30 describing the fantastic news from Treasury Holdings that it is going ahead with its plans to build a shopping centre and apartments in Sligo has to be an April Fool's joke.
As everyone in Sligo knows, there is already a shopping centre in town which is mostly empty. The shops on the main street, like most towns in Ireland, are also mostly vacant.
Is this just another case of a NAMA developer working hard to boost the value of his property portfolio so the Irish taxpayer can bear the loss? An even better result for Treasury would be if NAMA gave it the money to build another ghost shopping centre.
