Outraged politicians are just hypocrites
NO one can doubt the pension payment made to the Bank of Ireland chief is wrong, any more than the growing gap between the pay of all manner of senior staff, both private and public sector, is justified.
No one in the public sector should be paid more than the Taoiseach; and the pay scale for the Taoiseach, whoever he or she is, is already far too high.
The politicians calling for Mr Boucher's payment to be rescinded are right to do so. But they can't be unaware they lack credibility while there are politicians, in all parties, who are taking a full Oireachtas salary with lavish expenses and allowances, while at the same time claiming Oireachtas pensions for positions they previously held or continuing leave of absences from roles they will never return to.
