Our real rulers

• Yet another fabulous idea from me. Why not do away with TDs altogether? Just allow those already running the country for the EU, ie the civil servants, to take over completely, without the added encumbrance of your local powerless mouthpiece who'll tell you there's nothing soft about making hard decisions?

Our politicians, for want of a better word, make no decisions.

So how about it? Better to be worried by the faceless and nameless real power in Ireland than by the likes of Kenny, Martin, Gilmore, Adams, or Wallace and his merry band.

There was a time when the Irish civil service was a source of pride in its structure and in its dealings with the Irish people – there was mutual trust.
