One charge should fit all workers

AS the Government suffers its final death throes it seems it wants to bring small businesses down with it.

It wants to rescind part of the Budget proposals and place a higher universal social charge levy on self-employed people earning over €100,000.

But why the anomaly? Why not include the PAYE sector and the retired also?

Would it have anything to do with trying to placate at least some of the demands of their “gun to the head” Independent amigos and their other friends, both past and present, in the public service?
