One act of bravery is just not enough
It's extraordinary that this poor excuse for a Government has finally come out from cowering behind the shield of legal advice and moved to prevent AIB from paying staff bonuses. However, true to form, it then adopts a different approach as regards public servants. Surely the same principle for not paying these bonuses applies in both instances.
With this newfound bravado, perhaps the next port of call will be Rody Molloy and Pat Neary's golden handshakes and pension top-ups?
On a related matter, this retrospective action has potential to establish a dangerous precedent. We also see this in the Budget with the treatment of Section 23 investments. With such uncertainty created, who in their right mind would trust a State with the capacity and inclination to act like some tin-pot dictator?
