O Murchu reply was insensitive
Sir -- It was appalling to read the response of Raidio na Gaeltachta's political editor, Eoin O Murchu, to the family of the late Jean McConville, who were keeping him and others abreast of their campaign to have a War Crimes Tribunal look at Gerry Adams' alleged involvement in the murder of their mother.
Mr O Murchu is entitled to his views but whether he likes it or not the kidnapping, torture and secret burial of this mother of 10 was, by any standards, a war crime and it behoves an RTE journalist, no matter where his sympathies lie, to be a little more sensitive in his responses to a still grieving family. One wonders what O Murchu and indeed RTE's response would be if Mrs McConville had been tortured and secretly buried by the UDA? The demands for an inquiry would be very shrill indeed. Some of them no doubt in Irish.
