Number is up

• Our Constitution states in Article 16 that we should have a member for Dail Eireann from a constituency containing a population of no less than 20,000 and no more than 30,000.

In addition, it says there shall be no less than three elected Dail members for each constituency. Our present number of 166 TDs indicates that each one is representing a population of about 25,000.

A referendum should be held to change the constitution, so that the population number can be no less than 40,000 and no more than 50,000.
