No understanding of credit unions

Madam – I read your articles (Sunday Independent, November 17, 2013), concerning Newbridge Credit Union, (NCU). Two articles were written by Maeve Sheehan, one by Niamh Horan and one by Brendan O'Connor. I am writing to highlight some inaccuracies in these articles.

On December 15, 2005 shoppers did not fan "through the town's spanking new shopping centres." The shopping centre didn't open its doors until April 2006.

Regarding the venue for the meeting with Liam O'Reilly, CEO of Irish Financial Services Regulatory Authority, Brendan Logue, Regulator of Credit Unions (RCU) and his assistants, James O'Brien and Martin Sisk, and the suggestion that CU directors had "refused to travel to Dublin": the venue for the meeting was simple logistics. To ensure the attendance of all volunteers it was suggested that Mr Logue and Mr O'Reilly travel to Newbridge, a solution which was agreeable to everyone.
