'No dumping' signs surrounded by rubbish
I WAS pleased to see Ian O'Doherty tackle the issue of litter in a recent article (Irish Independent, April 16).
Surely it should be a source of great national embarrassment that our countryside is dotted with 'No dumping' signs. What kind of people are we that we need to be told?
And yet, as if to tell visitors to our island that we are illiterate as well as disgusting, all too often these signs are accompanied by vistas of black plastic refuse bags spilling their contents on to hedges, peatland, forest edge and stream banks.
