Nigerian atrocity under-reported

Frank O'Connor (Letters, March 8) complains that "Foreign Affairs Minister Micheal Martin has described the Israeli blockade of Gaza as inhumane" while he appears to ignore "the slaughter of innocent civilians in Afghanistan by the American war machine".

What I have failed to see is any extensive reporting of the massacres last Sunday in Nigeria where at least 500 Christian villagers were hacked to death with machetes, axes and daggers in the villages of Dogo Nahawa, Ratsat and Zot near Jos, capital of the Plateau State, by killers chanting "Allahu akbar" (God is greatest).

But then the perpetrators are not Israelis, so I suppose noticing this atrocity is evidence of Islamophobia.
