New Year wish

• As we approach the end of another austere year, we can only throw our hands up in despair at the lack of leadership from politicians across the whole of the European membership.

We have witnessed zombie politicians gather together at summit meetings almost on a monthly basis to repair a eurozone that continues to spiral toward oblivion. The light at the end of the Republic's tunnel will be another austerity express train in 2012, direct from Frankfurt.

Enda Kenny and Michael Noonan will continue to play the role of Angela Merkel and Nicolas Sarkozy's pet poodles, to pee on the Irish people as they demand. Don't rule out a tax on children's Confirmation money in next year's Budget; anything will be considered to save the banks and bondholders across the wonderful European club, of which the majority of us wish we were no longer members.

Referendums are a dirty word to the EU zombie politicians' club, as Greece found out not so long ago. Anybody in Ireland with aspirations of one in the New Year should keep taking the tablets.

The Government will continue with its recipe to squeeze as much financial juice out of those who have already had the pips squashed out of them.

If I could have one New Year wish realised, it would be for the majority of people across the Republic to stand shoulder to shoulder with a 'can't pay, won't pay' message.

Oliver Cromwell was a pussycat compared with the greedy political dogs of Europe who will turn Ireland into a pauper state if the people don't stand together and fight this protectionism of the European banks and bondholders.

Happy New Year to all.
