New approach to maths is needed

John Tynan's experience needs to be read by the people in charge of recruitment in secondary schools (Letters, August 24).

I fully sympathise with his situation, having faced the same problems on my return from the UK in 2006.

In 1993, I trained to be a teacher of maths in the UK and had no problem finding employment, as most of the schools there employ only maths specialists to teach maths.
