Never too proud for‘pre-loved’ toys
IS Brendan Dempsey of the St Vincent de Paul Society not shooting himself in the foot when he specifies that benefactors should not send secondhand toys to children (Irish Independent, December 6)?
During my childhood after the war, my widowed mother was never too proud to accept second-hand toys (and, indeed, clothing and other articles) for my sister and me. In fact, I can honestly say that some of those “pre-loved” playthings were among my favourite possessions.
