• I and many others were delighted to see the photograph of Charlie Haughey, very elegantly perched on his horse (Irish Independent, May 10).
Many, including myself, have previously commented very negatively on what looked like Mr Haughey's extravagant and self-indulgent lifestyle, given his own declaration at one point that the Irish people were living beyond their means.
His own lifestyle seemed to bear no relation to his income. I now regret colluding in the view that Charlie was a rogue. My sentiments were driven by jealousy. I have always longed to own an island like Inishvickillane, a boat like 'Celtic Mist' and a house like Abbeville mansion.
