Mr Smyth wrong about e-voting
IN writing about Tourism Minister Martin Cullen, Sam Smyth continues with the fiction that the reason for the e-voting machine debacle was that "the e-voting machines were a bad idea" (Irish Independent, March 2).
There was nothing wrong with the idea. What was wrong was the refusal of the Government to ensure that the system could verify that the votes counted were the votes cast.
That verification depended on having a paper printout in the event of a dispute.
