Most basic human right was denied

In its landmark ruling on December 16, the European Court of Human Rights failed to defend one of society's most ancient and fundamental human rights, namely the right to life. There is nothing progressive or feminist about abortion and its legalisation has resulted in too many vulnerable women's lives lost due to hazardous and unsafe abortions.

We hear talk these days about losing our sovereignty to the IMF. But what about the loss of our sovereignty to the Council of Europe?

I hope that Health Minister Mary Harney will defend the welfare of women and their unborn children and be daring enough to ignore this court's ruling.
