Moral mess

• I am writing in reference to Barry Duggan's article (July 23) on the refusal of St Joseph's College, Borrisoleigh, Co Tipperary, to admit a teenage single mother to their school. Mr O'Shea references "morality" and "moral integrity" to explain his decision to refuse enrolment of this girl.

The Department of Education enrolment guidelines stipulate that enrolment policies "must be non-discriminatory and must be applied fairly in respect of all applicants".

In this case, St Joseph's must henceforth ask boys if they have fathered a child so that the so-called moral integrity of the school is upheld.
