Minister's mistaken 'inter' mission

• At a time when there are much more important and pressing issues facing our country, I still can't help but be baffled at the Government's decision to axe the Junior Cert in favour of a continuous assessment system.

It is quite hard to believe that they are willing to abolish something that serves as an irreplaceable prequel to the Leaving Cert. The primary function of the Junior Cert is to prepare students for the Leaving Cert.

Yes, the results are worth little more than a piece of paper but they are not the exam's primary role.
