Minister missing point on judicial salary cuts

How often are we told that both the breathtaking pensions of those who destroyed our economy, such as former bank directors, government ministers and regulators, and the excessive salaries of present semi-state and quango hacks have constitutional protection, and so cannot be reduced?

And yet how strange it is that our Government, rather than holding a referendum which would allow justice to be done to these retired parasites and drones, would choose instead to hold a referendum to reduce the salaries of judges.

Let us not forget that it is the judges who have fearlessly upheld the law irrespective of who the litigants may happen to be. The present Government would most likely not yet be in office were it not that the High Court in effect ordered the previous government to obey the law and hold a by-election in Donegal South West.
