Metro’s pros far outweigh cons

THERE have been many recent calls from uninformed people to scrap Metro North, with unsubstantiated claims that it is a vanity white elephant, only connecting Dublin Airport with St Stephen's Green, and costing a mythical €5bn.

The facts are that Metro North interconnects with all major transport hubs, including Dublin Airport, the future Metro West, the Mullingar-Sligo line at Drumcondra, the Luas Green Line at St Stephen's Green and the Luas Red Line at O'Connell Street, which itself connects with the Cork-Limerick line at Heuston Station, Bus Aras, and the Belfast-Rosslare line at Connolly Station.

Metro North will connect the city centre with the Mater Hospital, Croke Park, Dublin City University, Dublin Airport and Swords, with a possible future extension to Donabate and an interconnection with the Belfast line.
