Mayo won't bow to the 'emperors'

Sir -- Your GAA columnist Colm O'Rourke (Sunday Independent, February 14, 2010) states in regard to Dublin: "It is one thing being kings of an uncompetitive Leinster, but Kerry, Tyrone and even Mayo could see the emperor had no clothes when the sun came out."

I am surprised at having to bring the respective records of Mayo and Dublin to such a keen commentator of the game as Mr O'Rourke purports to be. Since Dublin last reached an All-Ireland final in 1995, Mayo has contested four All-Ireland finals plus a replay. Dublin has reached a single semi-final in that period.

In head-to-head matches between Mayo and Dublin -- ie, the 2006 All-Ireland semi-final -- Mayo won. Since 2001, Mayo has appeared in two league finals, winning once. Dublin has failed to even reach a final. In league matches, Mayo has the upper hand.
