When asked about his U-turn on his anticipated severance payments, Micheal Martin said he had "thought about it again" and decided to give it back.
Apparently, he had also thought about it again on behalf of his ministerial colleagues by insisting that they also would give up the payments on keeping their Dail seats.
How easy it is to give up the severance payments when you know that you will still be receiving a salary and expenses that is around five times the average industrial wage.
It is to be hoped that the electorate will see this U-turn as a gimmick and treat it with the contempt it deserves on election day.
