Lobbyist Register poses challenge
Madam -- Ken O'Brien "Lobbying on behalf of IFSC's 'lobbyists'", (Sunday Independent, May 13, 2012) misses the point.
He states that the role of the IFSC Clearing House Group (CHG) is "to advance the development of the 'international' financial services industry" and "its core focus has been the complex work of advising the Irish Government in drafting legislation to enable the development of the IFSC". That definition of its work alone implies that the CHG lobbies the Government on legislative changes that impact its member companies located in the IFSC.
Defining the activity of the CHG and organisations like it goes to the very heart of the challenge facing Government as it seeks to introduce a Register of Lobbyists.
