Living beyond means a little rich from Bruton
JOHN Bruton has a nerve to tell us, like Charles Haughey, that we are, in the European Community, simply living beyond our means (Irish Independent, August 9).
I don't remember Mr Bruton telling us before we voted on Lisbon that Europe wasn't really that competitive any more, and that all the rises in wages and living standards used to push Lisbon through were really a borrowing bubble and that we were paying ourselves too much! No, it was all about how much a backwater Ireland was until it joined Europe and was able to earn these great wages to pay for those big houses and cars.
