Letters: Charities run by volunteers

Madam -- In his recent column, (Sunday Independent, December 22, 2013), Declan Lynch claims that "about half of the CEOs of charities are getting paid more than 100 grand a year".

This is misleading: all charities are run by volunteers who serve as board or committee members, and about half of all Irish charities have no paid employees at all.

As is the case the world over, when their work requires it, charities employ paid staff to deliver, oversee and manage effective service delivery and financial management.
