Letters: Broaden debate on suicide
Madam -- Brendan O'Connor writes an insightful article on the late Donal Walsh in "Donal's potent message to live life, now," (Sunday Independent, Jan 5, 2014). In the article he wonders why people were so captivated with Donal's message because, as we all know, it was a message that resonated strongly with people. His message was not simply an anti-suicide message but basically to live our lives as fully as we can, being true to ourselves and not being a "fake" as Donal also said.
As Brendan O'Connor paraphrased "You only have one life. It is short. Live your life and savour it and enjoy it. And do it today."
This message ties in very much with what Bronnie Ware, an Australian nurse who spent many years working with people who were dying, wrote about.
