Thinking outside the (auto gear) box
Sir -- I refer to the your article (Sunday Independent, Jan. 17, 2010) entitled: "Big chill exposes Beemer handling failures". I think you should take note of my comments below and do another article called "Back to basics".
In the early Eighties, when we had our last prolonged cold snap, I was driving a Ford Cortina and I managed to go to work every day from Sandyford. The trick was sticking a couple of solid concrete blocks in the boot over the wheels and starting in second gear.
In recent years, all my cars have been front -drive and these handle better in the snow, as I am sure the all-wheel drives and four-wheel drives do.
