Today marks the 100th year of International Women's Day, a day on which to celebrate the achievements of women and to look back at how far we've come, from 1911 -- when many women couldn't vote -- to 2011 where we have more women in the Dail than ever before.

The Irish Girl Guides, Ireland's largest girls-only organisation, is also celebrating its centenary this year and would like to celebrate all of the unsung heroes who sometimes don't get recognised for their commitment to youth and community organisations.

This year, on International Women's Day, the Irish Girl Guides will remember with deepest gratitude, the work and efforts of the inspirational women who, over the past 100 years, have empowered girls throughout this country and look forward to the next 100 years.
