• I might remind Maurice Fitzgerald (Letters, January 2) that our "national disgrace" is not Sinead O'Connor but our nation's wholesale complicity in the facilitation and cover-up off child sexual abuse by the clergy. Mr Fitzgerald would do well to note that for 20 years Ms O'Connor was a lone voice decrying this most despicable period in our history.
Naturally, she was ridiculed for doing so. If only we had more like her.
