Late Late 50th show of the year
Madam -- Jody Corcoran's opinion (Sunday Independent, June 3, 2012) on Ryan Tubridy's performance on the 50th anniversary show was little short of personal jealousy.
This was probably the best piece of television this year. Tubridy was superb and guided the live show through the often muddy waters of difficult guests and obnoxious comments.
How anyone could interpret his genuine respect for Gay Byrne and Pat Kenny as him being 'broken' was naive and insulting. I have asked several people and we all agree that the success of the show was Tubridy's triumph. Maybe Mr Corcoran needs to live in the modern world in which Ryan Tubridy brings a youthful and energetic presence to the show and is a true successor to Gay Byrne whom he rightly respected on the night while still handling some of the unpredictable guests.
