Last post from a loyal reader
Madam -- Last week one of your most loyal longtime readers passed away peacefully in Ardfinnan, Co Tipperary. Kitty Boyle was 102 years old and still sharp as a tack.
She never missed her Sunday Independent and she made sure her little diaspora didn't either. She sent her nephew, Fintan McIntyre, her copy every week. Four days after she died, we received her last post, a copy of the Sunday Independent, folded neatly and bound. Our address here in Naples, Florida, neatly written in her beautiful handwriting. I often caught the mailmen reading the front page.
Kitty was a newspaper fanatic and read the Sunday Independent cover to cover. The hard copies she lovingly sent always reminded us how much we miss out when we read papers online. Kitty's weekly posting of the Sunday Independent kept our fingers on the pulse of our native land.
We will never forget those weekly acts of patriotism and pietas. Or forget her.
Ar dheis de go raibh a anam.
Fintan and Breda McIntyre,
