Lack of accountability endemic in church
NEXT June, the 50th International Eucharistic Congress is due to take place in Dublin. Coming together in communion with Christ and with one another, is rendered meaningless by the transparent control of the Vatican over resignations of bishops and a cardinal.
Together with the 'comfort' given to appalling mishandling of clerical sexual abuse, this underpins the lack of truth, justice and accountability, that has become endemic in the Catholic Church.
The living body of the church in Ireland has been deeply, perhaps fatally, wounded. This is no time for celebration, but for sincere sorrow and lament.
