Keep it real

• Stephen Kinsella does us all a service when he reminds us that the members of the troika are much more than just 'pointy-headed technocrats' rubbing the tummy of 'the Taoiseach and his ministers for being good boys and girls' (February 18).

We need reminding that cutting the public sector deficit in one go would constitute a shock to the Irish economy 'not unlike a war or earthquake'.

The visits by the troika, as Stephen Kinsella says, are designed to keep us funded on a day-to-day basis.
