Katie's already a winner, so ignore the pessimists and begrudgers

• The report on the prospects of Ireland's Olympic boxing hopeful, Katie Taylor, (Blow for Katie Taylor's gold medal hopes as she gets tough Olympic draw, Irish Independent, July 28) exposes a negativity of attitude, does a disservice to one of Ireland's hardest working athletes, and feeds the pessimists, moaners, whingers and those of a schadenfreude disposition.

Whatever the outcome of Katie's endeavours in the London 2012 Olympics, whether she secures gold, silver or bronze or finishes outside the medals, she will have done her best and will be deserving of our respect and admiration.

She is already a winner. Like all the young men and women representing this nation in London, Katie has been a wonderful athlete and ambassador for Ireland over the years.
