It's quality that counts
Madam -- Emer O'Kelly wrote the most sensible column I read in ages (Sunday Independent, July 22). It's not quantity, but the quality of the life you have, whether you live long or short -- 60 or 100.
If you have contentment and no pain, who wants to run marathons in late life? But it's hard to find contentment. I think we are meant to have worries, crosses, and annoyances, especially if one is highly-strung by nature.
Music (if you could find Muddy Waters, Ray Charles, Van and Dylan) provides an escape. It can be healing and soothing.
