Ireland no role model for Greece

BRIAN Cowen has distanced himself from reality by presenting himself, after the recent EU meeting in Brussels, as a significant player in the rescue of Greece and the euro.

Despite the ill-judged remark of Jean Claude Trichet, head of the European Central Bank, about Ireland being a role model for Greece, the facts tell a very different, very worrying story.

For fiscal indiscipline and sheer irresponsibility, Ireland is right up there with the bad-boy Greeks.
