Inference is a bridge too far

Madam – Good to see the work of the Dublin City Council Naming Committee receive some coverage (Sunday Independent, September 22, 2013) – even if it was wrong. I am incensed at the inference that there was anything improper about the workings of the committee, which I chaired.

I have been scrupulously fair as chairperson and all our procedures have been transparent. After each meeting we issued a press statement detailing remaining names and inviting public comment.

We carefully looked at every suggestion, based on criteria determined prior to the committee being established. The terms of reference were determined by the full City Council and not by ourselves. Every single person who wrote to me I replied to and, if necessary, assisted them in any way in relation to the process.
