Incineration is not the answer

Andrew Callaghan's letter seems to forget we live in a finite world (Letters, February 1) of limited resources.

Scientific evidence is building that we are reaching the limits of the Earth's natural resources. Under the current economic orthodoxy of infinite growth, these resource limits present insurmountable barriers to growth, including the known limits to oil, natural gas, fresh water, copper and iron ore. We cannot keep burning and disposing of finite resources and turning them into toxic ash.

Incineration is not a solution, it is part of the problem. There is no place for incineration in a sustainable society.
