In brief: Referendums . . . Cards . . . Oil royalties . . . Heart . . .

REFERENDUMS under de Valera's Bunreacht na hEireann enabled us to think for ourselves. It gave the people a say in how the country was run. In the referendums on the Maastrict, Amsterdam, Nice II, Lisbon II, we sold off parts of that Constitution. We did hear that there was a loss of sovereignty involved, as well a gain of money. Yet we voted in favour. What's the beef now? Was 800 years not enough?

  • IF any TD or senator sends me a Christmas card in an Oireachtas envelope over the coming weeks, it will be returned to sender unopened.

If, on the other hand, I receive one in a plain envelope with a 55c stamp affixed, I will place it on my mantlepiece.
