Ill wind

• The heading of the letter from Brian O'Toole (Letters, July 24) was 'Hot air', perhaps a heralder of its contents.

Mr O'Toole puts forward many points that do not match the facts. For example, it is downright obfuscation to write that Ireland has one of the best and most consistent wind energy climates in Europe.

The reality is that there are many days on which there's hardly any wind; on July 24, as a recent example, wind was generating only a few megawatts, a minuscule amount compared with the total installed generating capacity of some 1,500 megawatts.
