Home lessons more vital than religion

In response to the letter in Tuesday's Irish Independent entitled 'Religious education is vital to our children's development', I have five children and I believe it was the education they received at home on 'respect for other people, caring for a person in need, taking time out to talk to a person and visit neighbours living alone and the elderly', that was most vital in their development, and not religious education.

As for Catholic schools, what is Catholic about them?

I believe every school should not be tagged with being Catholic unless the teachers and students are prepared to carry out everything laid down by the Catholic Church, starting with the Commandments, and I think that day is long gone.
