With another round of mortgage interest rate hikes pending, perhaps the various "green-taxes" could be relaxed until we get back on our feet.
I appreciate that the Green Party is sincere in endeavouring to lead the way on green taxation. However, taking more money out of the taxpayer's income at this time is both naive and over-idealistic.
The US is not going to follow little old Ireland's lead, and while we may reduce our carbon emissions, in reality our efforts are negligible compared to the per capita and hence total emissions figures of the US.
I agree it is weak to say that we won't try because they won't, but at the same time it is adding to the burden of the taxpayer and not making a jot of a difference to the environment in real terms.
