Help for homeowners

• Since writing to your paper about the folly of helping buy-to-let investors while ignoring home-owners, I have been contacted by a number of people with difficult stories.

My letter was prompted by comments from Department of Finance secretary John Moran, who ordered banks to "do a deal", where householders are "hopelessly in debt" and need a debt write-off.

Central Bank regulator Fiona Muldoon also said banks are behaving like spoiled teenagers and are "in denial" at the extent of the mortgage crisis.
