Hell or Barbados

• While living in the West Indies, I first became aware of how in the past Irish people were captured by the English and sent to the Caribbean to be sold as slaves.

Numbers were huge and they left their mark. They lived under brutal conditions and died as slaves.

They are not really remembered in Ireland but on the flag of Montserrat they are honoured with a picture of a woman in green holding a shamrock, a harp and a cross.
