Hard lessons

• Taoiseach Enda Kenny was unable to read, or worse, understand the electorate in March 2011. He promised openness in government and accountability in the Dail.

The daily dose of sarcasm in the Dail, from him and his Cabinet, shows their collective immaturity. Mr Kenny imagined Chancellor Merkel would compel the Irish people to behave maturely in their financial affairs, whilst he and his cronies travelled the world.

Ireland urgently requires responsible, mature leadership -- leadership from statesmen and visionaries.

Any cabinet member worth their salt would ask themselves one question before they travel the world seeking investment in job creation in Ireland: "If Ireland is such a great place to invest in, why are the Irish people not investing in Ireland themselves?"

This question was put to an IDA manager in 1980 by a German industrialist. The question still remains to be answered.
