Good Friday also a 'special event'
I refer to Barry Duggan's report (Irish Independent, March 26) on the historic decision to allow 100 Limerick pubs to open on Good Friday for a rugby fixture.
And so it came to pass. The genesis for this application came from a refusal to move the rugby match one day forward or back. I have to speculate that this was because TV advertising revenues would be greater on Good Friday than any other day. This case was all about money.
Unfortunately, other than the state solicitor, there was no voice in court yesterday for the thousands of people who believe that Good Friday is also a "special event" and should be respected as such.
