Gold in AIB

•I am angry, shocked and appalled to learn that Michael Noonan is likely to hire a public servant on an annual package of close to €1m (Irish Independent, October 3). I am referring to the chief executive of the state-owned AIB.

What a great start to the week. There is an expression that one shouldn't hire a dog and bark oneself, but it seems to me that Mr Noonan on €200,000 is not worth the money. We need jobs, we need capital for investment and a positive attitude towards mortgage holders; the last thing we need is a profit-focused bank set to make a fast buck. I am not an economist or even a celebrity, I am a mother and an unemployed teacher. Honest to God, I feel like going to Leinster House and getting our Government to sit down and think! Unsatisfactory work, Mr Noonan.
